Project : W210 - Side Indicators Replacement

Here is another update on the exterior of my W210.  Back in early 2018 I bought a set of side indicators to replaced the worn OEM side indicators.  I finally got both replaced!  Check out the two pictures below.  I think the tinted black looks really good on silver car.  Hopefully it will looks good on the new color scheme I have plan for this car!

Remember the worn side indicator that was broken?  Well I got a set of original replacement kit from JATI Transports for BND$20.00  I have them replaced by myself as it is a simple task to do by anyone.

I am so glad the side indicator works when I turn on the emergency blinker!  Another need-to-do list ticked!

Am enjoying doing this project car but I have to apologise as it is very slow in progress.

Project W210 - Defective Front Headlamps Cables Pt.2

Here are more problem after my last W210 post regards about the headlamp cables.  I thought taping the exposed wires would be the end of my headlamp problem.  And boy was I wrong.

I got so fed-up with blown fuse I literally disassemble the whole headlamps assembly for both sides.  After I opened up the housing I found more disintegrate cables deep inside both housing.  This time I really took my time to tape all exposed wires.  There are several cables per housing and one of the cable has a hidden fuse.

The hidden fuse shown below was connected to one of the cable.  I missed it because It was so thin. The hidden fuse was more than 20 years old and it finally gave up!

So I went to MR DIY and got this fuse holder and have them wire-up!  The red fuse can be purchased at any hardware or workshop for around BND$1.00.  Fuse holder is BND$3.00

It is a simple task and took me a few minutes to replaced the old fuse with the new one!

I almost gave up on these original headlamps and was planning to buy aftermarket headlamps.  Luckily I took my time to have those lamps properly checked and all these only cost me less then $10.00 to repair or else I would had opted for the aftermarket headlamp which would be costing around $300.00 and above!

Project W210 - Defective Front Headlamps Cables Pt.1

I was supposed to preview the looks of the white halogen lights on my W210 till I encounter fuse problems.  Each time I turn on the lights the fuses are blown.  I checked the fuse box and noticed the headlamp and spot lights fuses had blown.

It puzzled me because it shouldn't be that way as I already repair the exposed cables.  So I removed both headlamps to have it properly checked.  As you can see from the below picture you can see live wire exposed!

The live wires were touching each other hence with the blown fuses.  I then opened the headlamps and took my sweet time repairing the wires by covering it using electrical tape.   There are several cables inside each headlamp and it took around 2 hours for me to have those safely taped.

It was not an easy task but I am glad I spotted this problem before it got worst.  Next post I will show you guys how the car looks like during the night!

Project W210 - Replacing the White Halogen Bulbs

Finally took the step to replace the old bulbs with the white halogen bulbs that I purchased online. I replaced all the bulbs including main beam, high beam and spot lights. It should be a straight up job till I notice some wire connecting the bulbs were exposing from the cable.  I used the electrical tapes (blue color) and have all the cable properly taped.

Project : W210 - White Halogen Bulbs

Just bought a bunch of white halogen bulbs for my W210.  You can say this is my first small mods for my E240.  The bulbs here are pretty cheap, about BND$1.50 a piece.  I bought 4 sets of H7 and 2 sets of H11.  H7 will be fitted for the low beams and high beams.  The H11 will be fitted to the spot lights in the front.  The bulbs are tinted blue so when its turn on it will project white beam thru the lamp.

The 9006 bulbs were supposed to be fitted to the Dodge Journey but sadly I bought the wrong size.  I will get these fitted to my W210 this week and will show you guys the result.

H11 bulbs for the spot lights

H7 for both low and high beams

This is 9006 size and doesn't fit in any of my cars. LOL

Project W:210 - Pure Hydrogen Engine Decarbonized

Morning guys, last month I brought my car to this place in Berakas called IZOUCO Moto Services(click here for their link).  They are the first hydrogen engine carbon cleaning specialist center in Brunei.

So a good friend of mine knew about my Project W210 and recommended that my car should carbonize since its such a old car.  I was a bit skeptical at first as I was not familiar with this kind of product or services because I never uses them in any of my car.

So I gave it a try because it was on offer for BND$89.00 per car.  Normally this kind of service will cost around BND$160~$190 depend on engine cc.

Me and my friend booked a time slot for his newer E-class and my older E-class.  The process will take around 45 mins to complete.  Several cables were connected to the intake and air-box via these two big machines.  I believe that's where they inject the hydrogen into the fueling system. The system will then clean the injectors, spark plugs and all the combustion area with the engine being kept running for the rest of the process.

So, after an hour of waiting I finally took the car for a spin and HOLY FXXXXKK!!!  What a big differences this things change to my car!!!  The engine no longer shake like crazy and the acceleration is smooth as fxxxxk!

The best part about the Jet cleaning was how smooth the engine kick start without struggling and choking when I left my W210 in my garage for full two weeks without starting the engine.   Normally my W210 engine will struggle to start and sometime even stall because of the dirty injector n spark plug.

I highly recommend this product services to you guys!  I am planning to send my other cars to Jet Cleaning once they get their services done next few months!

Project : W210 - Key Fob Issue

The W210 is one of the earliest car model to use key fob instead of the traditional key.  I have here two version of key fobs from Mercedes Benz that belong to my W210.  The smaller key fob on the left is the newer version and the one on the right is the original version I received when bought the car new.  We actually received a pair of original key fobs when we bought the car.  Half way thru its life my family member misplaced the key fob and a replacement was replaced.  If memory recall the key fob replacement cost a whopping BND$600++ from Jati Transport Mercedes Benz.

Today I tried to use the older key to start the car and sadly it didn't work.  The newer still work like a charm but I would prefer to have a spare on standby in case of any emergency.  So I opened the key fob to try and replace the battery only to find out something is wrong with the key fob board.

Not sure what happen here but I think the loose wiring is the main culprit here.  I have no skill on repairing this problem so we will have to put this aside first.

Another option is to order another set of key from a third party company.  Recently this kind of shop has been popping out in many countries and I found out our neighboring country, Miri, has a few shops that cater this type of needs.  I called them up and they charged about RM1200 (BND390+) for a set of new key.  It require your car to be physically there for 2 to 3 hours so they can reprogram the key to the ECU.

Don't think I want to spend so much money for just one key so we will have to wait for cheaper or other alternative.

[ Engine & Electrical - MAP Sensor ]

Price - BND$63.00

Hello again!  3 weeks ago I posted on my kaput MAP sensor.  I went online and ordered a brand new one and it's finally here after a long wait!  It cost me around BND $63.00 including shipping all the way from Spain!  I got this installed immediately just yesterday and the car is now finally running without stalling.  Engine is still shaky and we suspect the spark plugs which is way past its life and require replacement immediately!  Will update again next few days on the progress.

Project : W210 - MAF Sensor Problem Again!

Yet another problem I thought I had it fixed.  The engine started immediately after refitting the second fuel pump however the idling wasn't smooth.  It was shaking a little so they took out the MAF sensor and replaced it with another similar MAF sensor from a similar car and the idling problem went away.  So I ordered another MAF sensor but was told if the problem still persist then we will have to look into fuel injections.  Hopefully we won't get into that situation.  I will update more when the MAF arrive in Brunei.

Project : W210 - Fuel Pump Problem Again!

[ Engine & Electrical - Fuel Pump #2 ]

Fuel Pump - $350

Remember the fuel pump I bought online for a reasonable cheap price. Well I had learned my lesson , don't ever buy cheap car parts!  HAHAHA! When the mechanic put back the repaired alternator back and started the engine but somehow the fuel pump failed to work.  So instead of going back online again to purchase another one I just went ahead with a proper fuel pump made by Bosch.  It's not cheap but the fuel pump is working properly now!

Project : W210 - Repairing The W210 Alternator

We finally found out why my new W210 battery went dead!  This time the main culprit was the alternator.  I was thinking of buying a brand new one but it is costly at about  BND$600!  Thank god there is someone in Brunei who is specialist in repairing alternator.  I pop by at Singapore Motor and got the alternator repaired but it wasn't cheap as it cost me BND$150.00.

Project : W210 - Not ALIVE Again!

Sorry for not posting lately due to my new venture into food & beverages business at my home.  It was a crazy month last month as I need to get used to my new business schudule.  Now everything is easing I can finally go back to posting!

That day after I started my Project:W210, I left it overnight at my parent place so I can get the license plate ready the next day so  I can drive to a workshop to get it thoroughly check.  Well guess what?  The next day the battery went dead on me when I came to pick up the car.  I tried to use the physical key and it also didnt work!!!

So worst scenario I have to call Jati Transport and get their people to open the door for me!  After 30mins of trying to fit the hook to the door handle, we finally got the door opened.  I called a tow truck and it is now been transported to SHH Proshop for further examination.

Project : W210 [ Engine & Electrical - Fuel Pump & Fuel Filter ]

[ Engine & Electrical - Fuel Pump & Fuel Filter ]
Fuel Filter - $28.00
Fuel Pump - $59.00

Finally my fuel pump has arrived after a long 3 weeks wait.  I bought this fuel pump online for BND$59.00 including shipping.  A genuine or OEM will cost about BND$200~BND$400.00

The white box is the fuel filter made by MAHLE.  A German brand that also manufacture OEM parts to all the major car manufacturer.  This particular part I bought it locally for BND$28.00.  Now, I need to arrange another time with my friend to get these two parts replaced.  Hopefully these are the last things I need to do to get the car start!  Will update more again in the next post.
